Screen mirror will let you see your iPhone or iPad screen on the Mac. It works over USB.
Plug in your device over USB and follow instructions on the iPhone/iPad and your Mac.
Please note that it requires multiple plug-ins before it will start working. There are three things that MacOS will do before my application even gets to see the iPhone.
- Permission to Connect the iPhone over USB to the Mac
- Trust the Mac on the iPhone
- Mac will install updates to access your iPhone screen
If any of these three steps are cancelled, the app cannot recognize the device. These are Apple MacOS security permissions that I have no control over.
Why USB?
Screen mirror is a simple application that will let you view your iPhone or iPad screen on the Mac. USB is the fastest way to transfer huge amounts of data with very low latency.
Note that the iPhone resolution is 2796 x 1290 at 60 fps.
USB 3.0 is the fastest way to get that many pixels to the Mac.
Another reason: If you want to connect multiple devices to your Mac, USB is a simple, scaleable way.
Why not include WiFi support?
WiFi is a shared medium, based on the number of devices on your network, performance will vary based on the number of devices that are on the network. USB is a dedicated data channel between your Mac and your iDevice.
Another reason; A lot of users are using a work Mac, and cannot get their personal phone on the WiFi. Using USB allows them to access the iDevice without needing to connect to the network.
