Not able to Pair over Bluetooth

Pairing the iPhone from the Mac is sometimes flaky. When you click on the “Pair iPhone/iPad over Bluetooth” what the app does is:

  1. Start broadcasting that the Mac is *also* a Keyboard and Mouse
  2. Launch the Apple bluetooth Pairing dialog

Pairing is not under app control so problems you see are related to the Apple Core Bluetooth System. Really…there are problems in Core Bluetooth.

What works best is:

  1. Go to Settings | iPhone on the iPhone
  2. If your Mac is already paired, click on the (i) on the right and forget the Mac
  3. On the Mac, click on the “Pair iPhone/iPad over Bluetooth” in ScreenMirror
  4. If you see the iPhone there, disconnect/forget the iphone
  5. Make sure you are on the Settings | Bluetooth page on the iPhone
  6. Wait
  7. Wait
  8. While you wait keep the iPhone awake by touching on the screen
  9. Wait till the iPhone shows up again with a connect button next to it.
  10. Click on the Connect button
  11. This will trigger a pairing dialog on both the Mac and the iPhone
  12. If the code is the same on both devices, click “Pair” on the iPhone
  13. You will now see on the Mac it will connect to the iPhone
  14. In another two seconds it will disconnect
    • I really dont know why it does this, but it is OK.
  15. Make sure you have selected the iPhone in connect to bluetooth list
  16. Click on the Select button

This should complete the pairing. If it does not…repeat. I’m sorry…

There is one more important step.

  1. Disconnect the iPhone USB cable
  2. Wait 5 seconds, or till the Screen Mirror window goes away
  3. Plug it back in

Now try to use the keyboard. “Command – H” is a good start. It will let you know if the iPhone is responding to events.
