Why I developed the Screen Mirror App

I wrote Screen Mirror during Covid. That was a time of endless video calls where 4-7 hours of my day were spent trying to look attentive while staring at people on a zoom or teams video call.

With Screen Mirror I can look at my screen (but actually look at my Phone screen) AND I can control it too. So everybody who sees me on a Zoom or Teams call thinks I am so attentively staring at the camera/screen.

Stage 1: Screen Mirroring

Version 0.x was only screen mirroring.

This would let me see my phone screen, and I could hold the phone on my lap and endlessly scroll my screen.

Good for reading articles but limiting because to actually click on my phone screen I needed to look at the phone screen to make sure I touch the correct link.

Stage 2: Control using the keyboard

Version 1.x was Screen Mirroring and Control.

I added a feature to Screen mirror to connect to the iPhone (or iPad) over bluetooth emulating a keyboard. Now I could look at the screen and use the keyboard to manipulate the iPhone.

I then added the mouse feature, and with Assistive Touch, I could use the mouse to control it.

Its three years after covid, and zoom calls continue…

Stage 3: Enhanced privacy

Sometimes when I was sharing my Laptop screen in a zoom call, I happened to show my phone screen when I switched between applications. When that happened I started unplugging my phone over USB when I was sharing…being careful.

I then added the Enhanced privacy feature where I can hide the app from teams, zoom and google meet.

This feature is currently in Alpha mode. I am releasing it now so that other users can try it out and give me some feedback.
