Getting started
How does Dance Tools work?
- Add a song. Import one, open a song someone shared with you, or tap Try Sample.
- Mark a snippet. Tap +, then Start and End while the song plays, and give it a name.
- Drill it. Tap the snippet and it loops until you tap Stop.
Do I need an account?
No. An account is optional. You only need to sign in (with Apple or Google) to add your own songs, to be a Co-Lead, or to be added to a private song. Shared songs open without one.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone, iPad and Android. A song shared from one opens on all the others, and updates reach everyone.
I got a song file from my Leader. What now?
Install Dance Tools, then tap the file (it ends in .zd) in Messages, WhatsApp, email, AirDrop or Files and choose Dance Tools. Every snippet comes with it.
Practicing
How does looping work?
Looping is hands-free: a snippet plays again and again. Stop jumps back to the start of the snippet. Switch to Play Once if you only want it once.
Can I slow a song down?
Yes. Tap Half Speed to play at 0.5× and learn the footwork, then tap again for full speed.
Can I put snippets in order or leave notes?
Tap Reorder to match your routine. Notes save as you type.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Songs and snippets on your device play without a connection. Changes sync the next time you’re online.
Sharing and teams
How do I share a song with my class?
Open the song and tap Share. Send the file by AirDrop, WhatsApp, email, SMS or Drive. When you add or change snippets later, they reach everyone automatically.
Emailing from an iPhone? Use the Mail app. The Gmail app on iPhone won’t attach Dance Tools song files (.zd). Mail, AirDrop, Messages and WhatsApp all work, and Dancers can still open the email in Gmail.
What do Leader, Co-Lead and Dancer mean?
- Leader: adds the song and runs the show.
- Co-Lead: helps edit snippets and notes.
- Dancer: plays along and gets every update.
How do I add a Co-Lead?
Ask them to open Account and show their QR code. On the song, tap Add Co-Lead and scan it, in person.
How do private songs work?
Turn on Private and only the Dancers you add can open the song. Add a Dancer the same way as a Co-Lead: scan their QR code.
Can I hand a song to someone else?
Yes. Tap Make Leader. They become the Leader and you stay a Co-Lead.
Managing songs
Can I replace the music but keep my snippets?
Yes. Replace Song swaps in a new mix and keeps your snippets.
The season’s over. Can I pause a song?
Turn off Allow Playback. Dancers see “Playback Off” until you turn it back on.
How do I remove a song?
Delete on This Device clears it from your list only; reopen a shared copy to get it back. Leaders can use Delete for Everyone, which removes it from every device and can’t be undone.
Where does my music go?
Nowhere. Your audio stays on your devices and is never uploaded. Only song names, snippets and notes are saved online. See the Privacy Policy.
